Hardware Extra
typical Processor Testing
It's not just a SUPER new testing... I'm just testing processors that are common and most popular in our life as a medium solution. I compared my system as well... Well, however this testing should help you in choosing the medium and with a satisfying price/productivity difference. So FIVE processors were tested. Nearly the same hardware environment was for them. They are:
1) Intel Celeron 700 MHz
2) AMD Duron 800 MHz
3) AMD Athlon Thunderbird 850 MHz
4) Intel Pentium 4 1,6 GHz
5) AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1333 MHz (My system >> with a superb configuration though :-))) )
So we have to Intel chips and three AMD ones with the respective main boards for different sockets as well.
And the testing now.
1) MWIPS (WhetStone FPU + DhryStone ALU)
Comments: the comfortable memory and main board (ASUS A7V-EX) for my system took the leading part of advantage. The motherboard possibilities allowed even 1345 MHz frequency rate with out the over clocking. Pentium 4 finished second but took an unexpectedly small advantage if comparing it with 850 MHz Thunderbird. Celeron took an surprisingly low place, losing even to Duron although the AMD one has got a higher frequency.
2) MDIPS (WhetStone FPU + DhryStone ALU)
My system is still the highest. Pentium 4 and AMD Thunderbird 850 MHz are going nearly at the same difference as Pentium has with my system. Celeron still the last although Duron didn't get a clear 4th place.
2) Speed (WhetStone FPU + DhryStone ALU)
The frequency decided everything here. So Pentium got it's deserved first place for the top speed with a processor + memory configuration. But my system came with not much worse results although the frequency differences are quite big (1,6 and 1,3 MHz respectively).
Resume
Celeron surprised with its slowest performances so it's not a great choice I would say. Of, course Pentium would be quite a nice solution for a medium performance. My system is more than medium but its configuration is not actually tensional for these times. So Pentium would have been a great choice. However, prices should decide the last part if you're still unsure.
