Hello and you're very well welcomed to this separate page of PC Helper Laboratory !!!

I'm to review a great and small hardware tweaker - aTuner.

aTuner - is a small hardware tweaker that allows changing different options of NVIDIA chip-based video cards, such as Antialiasing, Anisotropic Filtering, V Sync, OpenGL and Direct3D applications options - MipMap Bias, Frames limit Rendering. The main advantage of the program is that it allows controlling these options in real-time mode (you can change them without restarting your computer or whatsoever)!

Preparation for GeForce FX

With Detonator 41.03 and higher: D3D AF Encoding changed

With this aTuner and Deto 41.03+ the previous saved aTuner Profiles are not compatible with this Version

Some Bugs are now fixed

Support of Short-Keys (1, 2, .. 5, q, w, e, r)

Short Keys are only working with hidden Console

aTuner is now Compatible with 42.70

Hardware-Detection for NV18 and NV28 was fixed

More "intelligent" automatic Extra Panel Position

Corrected Detonator 42.01 Encoding for higher FSAA-Modus

Better English Language support

Features:

Full Hardware- and Driver-Detection

Supports up to two Monitors connected at one Card using Windows Dualmonitoring, TwinView and nView

Shows all important 3D-Quality-Settings in a singe Window

Enable the advantage of using unofficial Options

Shows the most importend Settings also as Tooltip from the Systray

Handy Modification of all imported Tweak-Settings without much clicking

Self-explaining Operating

Does not writes in your Registry without need, and even shows a log of all write-Accesses to the Registry.

Profile-Managment

Game-Launcher

Sys-Info with Emphasis on "Display Devices"

No Installation, simply extract the file to "Install"

Can be used together with GTU and RivaTuner, and other major Tweak-Tools.

Constant Support (fast Adaptation for new Drivers)

Freeware

"Now the real business starts"...

1) Antialiasing

Antialiasing is the actual smoothing of the textures and other graphics elements. It's the most important in aTuner and just for getting the highest quality of the graphics. It's also important to set the maximum possible antialiasing not only as a default setting but for the application as well. Don't make it too high because it may make the application to work slower. The difference is really huge:

4x Antialiasing

No antialiasing

2) Anisotropic Filtering

Anisotropic is a cascade textures filtering mode that provides a compensation of anisotropy. It smoothes the texture from 3 different projection views - X, Y and Z axis (this is more than just a bilinear filtering). It's the second important option that finishes the "full complex" of texture smoothing (together with antialiasing). With only antialiasing set the texture is smoothed only from X and (partly) Y axis projection views. But anisotropic filtering provides the highest quality smoothing from all projection views:

4x Antialiasing   No Anisotropic Filtering

4x Antialiasing  8x Anisotropic Filtering

All the other options can easily set by you as you wish. The only advice I can still give for editing options of OpenGL and Direct3D based applications is to set MipMap Bias lower than a 0 (-2.000 for example) because it optimizes the whole process of filtering the graphics:

It's also recommended to set the minimum frames limit (like on the screenshot).
Finally, the Video synchronizer (V Sync), or the video synchronization signal is never the less thing to set. It doesn't slow up the application in anyway. But it synchronizes video streams. So it's recommended to switch 'V Sync' on. The optimal set of options is given in the screenshot below:

I think that the utility is a required tool for the users of NVIDIA chip - based video cards. It is very simple and easy-to-use and provides the set of options you actually need for setting all needed options for reaching the highest level of detailed graphics.
